An Evening at the Races!

On Saturday 7th October 2017, Quest RDA held their first ever Race Night at Chobham Golf Club. The evening was a great success with almost 100 people joining in the fun. There were eight, fun filled races screened during the evening and guests enjoyed a delicious two course supper. Congratulations to the lucky race horse winners who, thanks to the generous race sponsors, won some fantastic prizes.

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the evening, because without your support Quest would not be able to stage these events and raise the vital funds needed to continue with their important work with disabled children and adults.

We would also like to thank the following companies for generously sponsoring the races; Mind & Body Worx in Camberley, The White Hart in Chobham, Melisa Boutique in Chobham, West Byfleet Golf Club, Olympia London International Horse Show, Bill's Restaurant in Woking, Foxhills Golf Club and London House Restaurant in West Byfleet.

There was a great raffle with fantastic prizes. We would like to thank the following companies for their donations and continued support; Chobham Adventure Farm, Sunningdale Golf Club, Shetland Pony Club in Cobham, GLive, Toni & Guy in Weybridge, Chobham Hair Studio, Nova Spa in Chobham, Boz's in Horsell, Hall & Woodhouse, Dry Cleaners of Chobham, John Jenkins in Chobham and The Red Lion in Horsell.

Thank you to Basepoint Business Centre in Camberley who have chosen Quest as their Charity of the Year and will be
fund- matching the money raised on the night.

Our biennial ball took place on Saturday 12th November at The Runnymede Hotel in Egham. Themed ‘Masquerade’, it was a sophisticated and splendid evening with two hundred guests entering into the spirit of the occasion in their finery and masques. Thanks to their generosity, we smashed the previous fundraising record to enable Quest to buy a new pony and continue with the important work with disabled children and adults. We are delighted to announce that Diablo has joined the pony family at Quest RDA, you can see details here...

Guest speaker, Sophie Christiansen OBE
SVG Capital kindly sponsored the ball itself which enabled the fundraising committee to stage such a marvellous event, at zero cost to the charity and every penny raised on the night going directly to Quest.

We were both delighted and honoured with Sophie Christiansen OBE as our guest speaker; she is a truly driven and inspirational woman. Guests listened intently as Sophie gave a very moving account of the huge influence that RDA has had on her life and the important role it has had in her success as an Olympian.
Throughout the evening there was a Silent Auction and Tree of Surprises with some wonderful prizes generously donated by Quest supporters and local businesses. Following dinner guests were soon dancing to the fabulous sounds of George and the Dragons.

Sophie's story

Sophie was born in 1987, two months prematurely with cerebral palsy and suffered from other serious health problems. At the age of six she began horse riding as a form of physiotherapy at her local RDA group and then, aged 13, she joined South Bucks RDA which specialises in Para Dressage. Sophie had found her sport and her passion! She loved the freedom she got from riding and quickly excelled to become the youngest rider aged just 16 to compete at a Paralympic Games (Athens 2004), coming away with a Bronze medal.
Sophie went on to gain 8 Paralympic Gold medals; 3 at Rio 2016, 3 at London 2012 and 2 Golds and 1 Silver at the Beijing Paralympic Games in 2008. Sophie has a string of Gold medals from various World and European titles and in 2013 she was appointed an OBE for services to equestrianism and for disability sport.
As well as being a 5 time Olympian, Sophie graduated with a First Class Masters degree in mathematics from Royal Holloway, University of London in 2011.
Rosemary Harrison and Pauline Lane

Quest were delighted that Lindsay Correa, South East RDA Regional Chairman, Pauline Lane, Surrey County RDA Chair and Rosemary Harrison, Surrey County RDA Coach were able to attend and support our ball. Rosemary is retiring at the end of this year after 10 years of dedicated service. Julie Jones presented her with flowers to thank her for all she has done to help Quest (pictured below).
George and the Dragons
Julie Jones, Chairman of Quest, spoke about the the work of the charity and the enormous benefits of equine therapy for disabled children and adults.
Quest would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated auction lots & gifts and the guests who supported us on the night. Thanks to the band, George and the Dragons and to The Runnymede Hotel for all their help staging the event.
